‘A contemporary addition to a historic warehouse ’
Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon have a long and proud history of producing water pumps and turbines in Kendal since 1881. Over that time the historic factory has been extended many times to suit the needs of a successful and expanding business. In the 21st Century the business is now increasingly focussed on research and development and have commissioned +3A to design a new R&D facility to be woven into their facilities.
The design will involve substantial alterations to the existing historic buildings along with a new extension to create a flexible and stimulating office environment, new arrival point and social spaces for staff. The proposals have grown from a rigorous analysis of existing structures and have been designed to reveal and celebrate the historic layers of the buildings whilst simultaneously adding a new contemporary layer.
Using our expertise in contemporary workplace design, the interiors will be designed to offer a range of task based work settings in a highly collaborative environment.
